What should I do about my contractor?

I told him I only had 9K to do everything I needed done. He said he would do everything but my deck. So far, he hauled the trash, repaired some drywall, layed some tile, installed some recess lighting plus installed my small bathroom fixtures. He had no options for kitchen cabinets so I bought my own for him to install. The kitchen is the major part of the deal. It's why I chose him. Now, he's saying that installing the cabinets wasn't part of the deal and it's not in the contract. I've paid him $10,620. Would this be excess if installing the cabinets wasn't part of the deal. I have numerous emails about the cabinets and when they'd be arriving plus the email station that he'd do everything. He want's $1,200 more after the $10,620. Who's in the right?
