Looking for a new job... whats is a porter?

Okay so I live in queens ny and I just moved here a few months ago from NC and I have a job of ping out flyers and I really need a new job someone told me to try and get a job as a porter and I have no idea what that is. So what is it? Also if anyone has any ideas of a good job for the moment where I don't have to deal with a million people id love to hear it
